How Can You Connect Your Sonos Move (and What Does It Pair With)?

The Sonos Move is an exceptional speaker, capable of linking with devices using different operating systems. You can connect it to various techs through the Sonos app that works via Wi-Fi or link it using Bluetooth. If you have an Apple gadget, you can even use AirPlay to join with the portable audio device.

Table of Contents

If you’re interested in pairing the Move, then know that is it compatible with another of the same model. On the other hand, you can group it with other Sonos-made speakers through the multiroom feature. You’ll need to remember a few pointers though, so keep an eye out.

Does Sonos Move Work Without Wi-Fi?

There’s one particular thing you should know upon purchasing the Move. It won’t work if you have not configured it using Wi-Fi and set it up in the controller app. This step is non-negotiable because it activates the device and registers it in your home system. Once you’ve gone through with this step, then you can bring the wireless speaker anywhere.

This device is Sonos’ first bet outside of the home turf, so it’s capable of working without the help of a home network. Whether you want to blast music in the garden or even a car trip, the Move will pull through for you.

That is possible because of its built-in Bluetooth function, which is a feature unique only to the brand’s portable devices. Through this, you’re able to stream media using only a Bluetooth-capable source device.

Can the Sonos Move Connect to Ethernet?

If you’re thinking about hardwiring the Move using an ethernet port, then you’re in for a disappointment. There’s just no way around it, the device is designed to be wireless through and through. The portable speaker only has a single port, and it’s designated for charging.

Connecting the Move via an ethernet cable just defeats its purpose of being mobile. True, most devices from Sonos have ports to accommodate hardwiring to access SonosNet. However, it’s not useful for a speaker that’s meant to shine outdoors.

Just because the Move can’t connect via ethernet doesn’t mean you’re losing out though. You still get all the features of Sonos, just wireless. As a bonus, you can even use Bluetooth when you’re out of Wi-Fi range.

How to Connect Sonos Move to Wi-Fi

Sonos is a behemoth in the home sound system industry, and their products all have Wi-Fi as the backbone. In fact, all the brand’s devices need to be set up via Wi-Fi and the controller app for them to work. The Move is no exception, so here’s how you do it:

  • Launch the Sonos controller app. The Move is compatible with either the S21 or S2 app, so you’ll have no trouble if you want to sync it among your Legacy Sonos devices.
  • Link the source device to your Wi-Fi network and make sure it is the network you want the Move to connect with. It won’t matter if you’re using an iOS or Android tech, Sonos is capable of forming connections with either.
  • Power up the Sonos Move. You can do this by pressing the Power button on the back of the device. If the LED indicator has flashed white, then the Move is on but not connected to any network.
  • You can choose to create a new Sonos system in the controller app of choice. Alternatively, you can also add the Move to an existing system to link it with your other Sonos techs.
  • Navigate to the System tab. This is symbolized by the gear icon located next to the home option.
  • Tap on Add Product. This option is located in the last section of the page, beside the ‘+’ icon.
  • The controller app will begin to scan the network for any nearby Sonos device. After a few moments, you’ll see the Sonos Move’s name along with a clear picture of the speaker.
  • Select Add, then press the Join button on the back of the speaker once you hear a chime. This button is symbolized by the infinity icon, so you can’t miss it.
  • In-app instructions will be provided in the Sonos controller app. There will be a prompt for an upgrade for the Sonos Move, so click on Update.
  • Click on Done. You can see the Move registered in the program and also linked to your home network. Double-check the connection and see if the LED indicator is solid white.

Alternatively, you can also check the network connection by going to the About My Sonos System page. If the code beside your Sonos Move says WM:1, then your wireless speaker is successfully linked to Wi-Fi.

With it, you’re able to use the Sonos app to control the Move from far away, as well as group it with other devices. What’s more? You get access to multiple streaming services and even listen to radio stations partnered with the brand.

How to Connect Sonos Move to a New Wi-Fi Network

Generally, there are two ways to connect the Move to a new Wi-Fi. This depends on what version of the controller app you’ve registered the device to. If you’ve linked the wireless speaker to the legacy S1 program, then here’s how you set up the new network:

  • Open the Sonos S1 app on your iOS or Android device. Wait for a few moments while the program scans the Sonos system.
  • There will be a display message saying, “Unable to connect to Sonos”. If you see this, click Learn More.
  • Select the ‘Changed Router or Wi-Fi Settings?’ option. You’ll be provided instructions on how to set up the app and all its registered devices on the new Wi-Fi network.

On the other hand, if you’re using the S2 controller app, then here’s how you do it:

  • Launch the S2 controller app on your iOS or Android device. You must use any of the two because a Mac or PC won’t cut it.
  • There will be a pop-up saying ‘Unable to Connect to Sonos’. Click on ‘Let’s Fix It’ to start the setup process.
  • Alternatively, you can also manually go to the Settings page and tap any of the prompts you can see. Either click on ‘Unable to find your Sonos system’ or ‘Update your network settings’.
  • There will be step-by-step instructions provided to set up the new router or home network.

Can You Use Bluetooth on Sonos Move?

Sonos stepped up on its game when they released the Move in 2019. Not only is it packed with features unique to the brand’s design, but it also has Bluetooth features to boot! That’s right, the wireless speaker is the pioneer to Sonos’ tech that sports both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth pairing.

This is actually a huge step for the powerhouse which has long kept its devices tethered to a power source. Gone are the days when you’re restricted in blasting media within the range of the home network. With the Move, you get the perks of Sonos while still being able to stream music when away from Wi-Fi.

How Does Sonos Move Work on Bluetooth?

When you’re out of range from your home network, the Move actually functions like any other generic Bluetooth speaker. This means that you get to listen and blast audio if you have a Bluetooth-enabled source device with you. Through it, any media playing on your phone resonates with Sonos’ portable audio tech.

However, there are a few restrictions on this connection mode. You’re unable to converse with the smart assistant you’ve installed it with. This means you can’t command the Move to switch playlists or even access the internet for basic questions.

Additionally, you can’t access the Sonos app which means you’re locked out of a plethora of third-party streaming services. It won’t become a problem though, as long as you have your source of music installed separately.

How to Activate Bluetooth Mode on Sonos Move

Before you’re able to activate Bluetooth mode on the Move, you’ll need to first configure it via Wi-Fi using the controller app. If you’ve done this step, then you can smoothly transition from Wi-Fi to Bluetooth in just a few steps. Below is the complete process of doing so, check it out:

  • Locate the Bluetooth button on the back of the wireless speaker. Hold it for a few seconds until you hear a chime and the LED indicator flashes blue. This key is located between the Power and Join buttons.
  • Activate the Bluetooth on your source device. Any tech is fine, as long as it functions on the same Bluetooth range as the Sonos Move.
  • Go to the Bluetooth tab on your source device. Look for the Sonos Move on the list of available connections and then click on it.
  • Wait for a few seconds for the pairing to finish. If the connection is done, the LED indicator on the Sonos Move will flash a solid blue.

Alternatively, you can also switch from Wi-Fi to Bluetooth mode with just one click. This is useful if you’re linked to your home system and want to spontaneously switch to listening to your source device. As long as your source device is on Bluetooth pairing mode, then the transition is seamless:

  • Locate the Bluetooth button on the back section of the Move. This button is also called the Mode key because it enables you to switch back from Wi-Fi to Bluetooth back and forth.
  • Press the Mode button once to switch from Wi-Fi to Bluetooth pairing. Once you hear a chime and the LED light flashes blue, then it is available for linking.
  • The wireless speaker will connect to the most recent tech it has linked via Bluetooth. If the most recent source device is not present, just use the gadget’s Bluetooth section to select the Move.
  • Once the connection has been established, you’re free to stream any media of choice without the use of Wi-Fi. You’ll know when it has successfully paired if the LED indicator is displaying solid blue light.

What Bluetooth Version Is Sonos Move?

The Move is capable of being used outdoors without Wi-Fi because it has Bluetooth 5.0 installed. This enables the device to connect to gadgets within the maximum range of 800 ft (240 m). If that ain’t impressive enough, then here are the perks of this Bluetooth version:

  • Lower Energy Consumption. Bluetooth 5.0 allows low energy communication between devices and minimizes energy consumption. This means you get to use the Move via Bluetooth without worrying too much about the battery life. In fact, you can stream non-stop for about eleven hours before plugging it into power.
  • Better Data Transfer Speed. Bluetooth 5.0 has a faster transfer speed, especially when compared to its predecessor. It has a speed of about 2 Mbps, which is double what the 4.2 version offers. Greater transfer speed means higher-resolution audio and more efficient bitrate streaming.
  • Fewer Audio Dropouts. Since the Move has a large operating range that reaches 800 ft (240 m), there will be less audio lag. Even when you stream audio from a few meters away, you’ll experience less latency which is a common occurrence with Bluetooth pairings.

As long as you have a device that works the same wavelength as the wireless speaker, then you can use the Sonos Move. Just don’t forget to set it up via Wi-Fi before usage, so you get to enjoy the Sonos experience.

Does the Sonos Move Have AirPlay?

The Move can pair up with Apple devices using AirPlay, so that’s another perk right there. Not only can the wireless speaker group with other devices of the same brand, but can also link with premium Apple tech. If you’re wondering how to, then follow the instructions below:

AirPlay Streaming via iPhone or iPad

  • On your iPhone or iPad device, open the Control Center. You can do this by swiping up or down, depending on the model you’re using.
  • Look for the audio card on the top right corner, and then click on the AirPlay symbol. This is the icon with one triangle and three circles linked together.
  • On the list of devices, select Sonos Move. You can also opt to choose multiple speakers to stream the same audio across the devices.
  • Alternatively, you can also open a streaming program and access AirPlay directly. All you need to do is open the app, then click on the AirPlay icon. Once you see the Move on the list, click on it and wait for pairing to happen.

AirPlay Streaming via Mac

  • Go to your Macbook’s System Preferences. Scroll down until you see the Sound option.
  • Within the Sound page, click on Output. You’ll be navigated to a tab showing a list of devices.
  • Select the Sonos Move and wait for the connection to be established. Once done, you can stream any audio playing in the Macbook to your wireless speaker.
  • You can also choose the Move if you have Airplay Stream enabled by clicking on the Volume tab. You can find this key in the upper right corner of your Macbook’s screen.

Does Sonos Move Support AirPlay 2?

The Move is among the list of Sonos speakers that is also capable of streaming via AirPlay 2. You can think of this as another Bluetooth alternative, but only much better. Rather than connecting the Apple tech directly to the Move, it uses Wi-Fi as a medium to send media signals.

However, there are a few things to remember when you plan to use this Apple-exclusive pairing mode. Here they are:

  • You can’t use AirPlay via Sonos Move if the source device is currently on a phone call.
  • If you can’t read the Move from the list of AirPlay-compatible products, then check if the device is turned on. Also, examine if the wireless speaker is linked to the Sonos system.
  • Your source device, be it iPhone or iPad, should have an iOS version of 11.4 or higher.
  • The Sonos controller app should also be upgraded to 9.0 or higher. This particular version contains the upgrade that supports AirPlay 2 streaming.

If you have updated both your speaker and Apple device, then you can link both the usual way. Just navigate to the Control Center and connect the widgets from there.

Additionally, you can also group the Move with other Sonos speakers without the use of a controller app. As long as the sound device is AirPlay-enabled, then you can enjoy multiroom playback.

Does Sonos Move Work Alone?

The Move is capable of functioning as a general Bluetooth speaker, but it’s not designed to work alone. When not in Bluetooth pairing mode, the device is Wi-Fi dependent and can only play using the controller app.

Without a source device or a home network, you can’t stream anything from this portable widget. So if you’re thinking of using the Move alone like some sort of battery-powered radio, then you’ll be disappointed. It’s not just built to function as a self-sufficient device and needs the support of other technology.

On a similar note, the Move is part of Sonos’ stereo configuration. However, you can still play music with it singularly without streaming the same audio from other devices. Note that you’ll still have to pair it with a source device to work, though, so it still can’t work alone.

Can Sonos Move Be Grouped?

The Move may be the first-in-line when it comes to having Bluetooth features, but it still works like a typical Sonos product. That means you get to use it as a general Bluetooth gadget, but you can also enjoy it with other speakers as a group. Here’s how to do it in a few easy steps:

Group Sonos Speakers Using iOS or Android

  • Launch the Sonos controller app and navigate to the System tab.
  • Click on the Group icon next to the Room you stationed the Move in.
  • Select all the Rooms you want to merge with the Move. You can also choose to select Everywhere. This helps you save time especially if you want the Rooms to stream the same audio.

Group Sonos Speakers Using macOS or Windows

  • Check out the left portion of the screen after opening the Sonos controller program. This will show you the list of Rooms you have created.
  • Click on the Group icon next to the Sonos Move.
  • Select all the Rooms with their respective speakers that you want to combine with the Move. You can choose to merge two Rooms, or even opt to select everything.
  • To help you make merging easier, just tap on ‘Select All – Party Mode’ to link all your Rooms into one Group.

Once done, you can stream one media across all the Rooms you’ve combined into one single Group. This means that the speakers you’ve positioned in the living room can sync with other synced devices all around the house.

Can You Pair Two Sonos Moves Together?

There’s yet another connection mode you can perform with the Move. This is called stereo pairing and is only exclusive to two devices of the same model. As long as you have two Sonos speakers and a Wi-Fi connection, then you can use the stereo pair route.

Here are the pointers before you’re able to pair two Moves via stereo:

  • You can only stereo pair two Sonos Moves together. If you want to link two Sonos devices of different models, your best bet is through the Group feature.
  • The two Moves should be under the same Sonos system but stationed as separate rooms.
  • The optimal placement for stereo pair is within the distance of 2.4 to 3 m apart (8 to 10 ft). The listening distance should stay within 2.4 to 3.7 m away (8 to 12 ft).

Can I Use Sonos Move as Stereo Pair?

There are only a few Sonos devices that support stereo pairs, and the Move is one of them. Stereo pairing is the merging of two speakers of the same model into one single room in the controller app. The perk of this combination is a wider stereo experience by separating the audio channels to left and right.

Here’s how you do it using the Move:

  • Open the Sonos controller application from your iOS or Android device.
  • Navigate to the Settings tab and select System.
  • Look for Products, then tap one of the Move models you want to use as a stereo pair.
  • Select ‘Set Up Stereo Pair’ and follow the app instructions. If you’re using the S1 app which the Move is compatible with, choose ‘Create Stereo Pair’ instead.

After pairing is done, you’re free to stream the same media across the two Move models. Once you’re done, you can easily separate the two by navigating to the Products page. Choose one of the Rooms involved in stereo pairing then click on ‘Separate Stereo Pair’. The app will then provide step-by-step instructions to safely disconnect the two speakers.

Can You Play 2 Sonos Moves on Bluetooth?

If you’re looking for a way to pair two Moves using Bluetooth, then you’re out of luck. Stereo pairing may be possible without Wi-Fi on some devices, but not on Sonos products. The brand simply did not develop a mesh network tethered on Bluetooth.

The Move is not designed to work beyond its Bluetooth protocol, which entails only the connection to a single source device. If you want to link two of the same model, you’ll need to utilize stereo pair over the home network. You can also maximize the multiroom feature, and connect the two Moves with other Sonos devices on the same network.

Can You Stereo Pair Sonos Move in Bluetooth?

Stereo pairing the Move using Bluetooth may seem convenient, but it’s just not possible. This feature is only accessible if you have a Wi-Fi network nearby, especially since you do it within the Sonos app.

First off, the Move is designed to be a general Bluetooth device when not linked to the home network. It’s only programmed to connect to a device that is meant to be a source of media streaming.

Second, the brand did not create a complicated system to cater to such a connection. Instead, they developed the multiroom pairing to its maximum which connects several devices via Wi-Fi.

Allowing stereo pairing using Bluetooth seems counterproductive. This is because Sonos devices have the multiroom feature and have Wi-Fi as their backbone.

How Many Bluetooth Devices Can Be Paired With a Sonos Move at Once?

The Move is designed to only connect to one source device at a time in Bluetooth pairing mode. Without Wi-Fi, the portable tech is just like any general speaker you can find in the market. It’s programmed to only pair with one Bluetooth-enabled widget to stream media, so you can’t expect it to do more.

If you want to connect to another device, then you’ll need to disconnect from the present one. This is quite easy, and you won’t need to register or set up a new Bluetooth gadget each time.

The Move is capable of remembering up to six devices, so you can link with any of these by navigating the Bluetooth settings.

Do I Need 2 Sonos Move?

Deciding whether you need two Move models depends entirely on your preference. If you’re keen on using stereo pairing and are quite fond of the wireless speaker, then do so. However, if you’re still skeptical, then you’ll need to weigh the pros and cons.

First off, think of where you’ll use the two Moves. Since they are portable, you can station them anywhere, even on the porch or by the garden side. However, you’ll need to make sure they’re still within Wi-Fi range because stereo pairs won’t happen with Bluetooth.

Second, one Sonos Move costs a whopping $399 so you’ll need double the amount if you want two. If you have other Sonos speakers stored at home, then you can group it with the one Move you have. This is an alternative if you want to enjoy two or more speakers streaming the same audio in high quality.

Can You Connect Multiple Sonos Move?

Connecting multiple Moves is possible as long as you register the models under the same Sonos system. Each system can record up to a maximum of 32 Sonos speakers, so you can link plenty of the brand’s tech together.

If you have several audio devices of the same model, it’s possible to group them using the controller app. All you need to do is station the Moves you have in different Rooms, and merge them using Sonos’ multiroom feature.

On the other hand, if you only have two Moves, then you can stereo pair them instead. This is just virtually putting the two devices in one Group, so it only works via Wi-Fi.

Can You Daisy-Chain Sonos Move?

The Move may be exceptional and boasts of a variety of features, but daisy-chaining is not one of them. It is not made with the right hardware to cater to this particular wiring scheme, and can’t be hardwired in the first place.

Daisy-chaining speakers would need an input plug, typically an XLR or a phone jack. This is something the wireless device does not have, as it only has one port made for charging.

Also, Sonos has its multiroom feature. This means you get to connect multiple speakers and stream media by controlling only one speaker source. You won’t even need a wire, just the presence of your home network.

How Many Sonos Moves Can You Pair?

If you’re talking about stereo pair, then you can only use two Sonos Moves at the maximum. Any more than that and the connection won’t work, and the third speaker will only be useless. Note that stereo pairing divides the audio channel into left and right, so two devices of the same model are enough.

Pairing several Move models via the controller app is also possible. In fact, you can link 32 of them as long as they’re in the same system. With Sonos’ multiroom feature, you can stream one media across all registered devices.

Does Sonos Move Work as Surround Sound?

Sonos made the Move as an on-the-go speaker, so it working as a surround sound device doesn’t make sense. If you’re thinking of adding it to your home theater setup, then you’ll be disappointed.

Surround sound speakers are meant to be stationary, and they connect to Sonos soundbars through the SonosNet signal. These are both aspects the portable Move is lacking – it does not have a port to tether to SonosNet in the first place. You could group the Move with devices from your home theatre and stream the same audio, but not as surrounds.

For reference, there are only a few devices from the Sonos line capable of surround sound. These include the One, One SL, Play:1, Play:3, Play:5, Five, and the SYMFONISK speakers.

Can You Use 2 Sonos Move as Surround?

Using two Sonos Move as surround speakers are not possible. There’s just no way for a workaround since the device is not made for it. For starters, the Move connects directly to your wireless network.

Sonos home theatre and surround system functions on the SonosNet signal, which requires an ethernet port to work. Since the Move is made to be away from the Wi-Fi, it does not have this particular port in the first place.

If you have two Moves lying around, here’s what you can do instead:

  • Link Them Using Stereo Pair. This feature is unique to devices of the same model, so you maximize your two-of-a-kind Sonos speakers.
  • Group the Moves With Other Sonos Speakers. By using Sonos’ multiroom feature, you can maximize portability with the Move. You can stream media across your speakers in different rooms. You can then relocate both Models to your heart’s content without any problem.

Can Sonos Move Be Used as Rear Speakers?

The Move is not capable of being used as a rear speaker for your home theater setup. True, you can group it with your other home theater widgets using the controller app. However, they won’t ever function as a dedicated rear audio device.

Firstly, the wireless speaker is designed as a device you can carry comfortably. It is not manufactured to be a permanent installation on your home cinema.

Second, it does not have the right hardware to function as a rear speaker. It is made with a wide soundstage, which is not ideal for a device meant to playback audio.

Can I Add Sonos Move to an Existing Surround Sound System?

Even though the Move seems ideal as part of a surround sound setup, the device is not meant for it. If you expect it to work harmoniously with an existing surround sound system, you’ll be dismayed. It doesn’t mean you can’t link it to the devices in your surround sound setup though.

All Sonos speakers are capable of connecting using the controller program. You can create a group with the Move and the home theater devices.

However, the wireless speaker won’t function as part of the theater setup. It will only play the same media the group is streaming, but it won’t work the way you expect it to.

What Is Sonos Move Compatible With?

Modern devices work with either Wi-Fi or Bluetooth signals, some even both. The Move, being capable of both connections, is compatible with most of these technologies. It’s not an understatement to say that it can thrive even when away from Sonos’ unique network of speakers.

It is capable of linking to different operating systems like on Android and iOS devices. Windows and macOS tech are also no exception and can link with the Move with the right program and knowledge.

That is made possible with a Wi-Fi connection and Sonos’ very own genius controller app. This program is found in the App Store or Google Play Store for free, so feel free to use it. With this Sonos app, you get to link the Move to your device and even group it to other Sonos-made widgets.

When Wi-Fi is not available, the Move is compatible with devices that are Bluetooth enabled. This means you get to use it as a standalone speaker and carry it almost anywhere. If you have pre-downloaded music or have your streaming service, then you can enjoy the Move without a network connection.

Can Sonos Move Connect to Multiple Devices?

The Move is more than capable of connecting to multiple devices. This is the case if you are using it via Wi-Fi and controlling it in the Sonos app. Through this method, you get to link the wireless speaker with devices recorded in your Sonos system.

Each Sonos system is capable of registering 32 of the brand’s devices. As such, you can connect the Move to these gadgets as long as they are on the same ecosystem. This is possible thanks to the brand’s rich multiroom feature. With it, you can group the Sonos Move to all the speakers recorded in the network and stream the same media like them.

If you’re curious about Bluetooth connections using the Move, then be aware that it functions on a limited spectrum. In this mode, the wireless speaker is only capable of linking to one single source device. It can record up to six gadgets in its memory, but it’s only able to link to one of them at a time.

Can You Connect Sonos Move to Your Phone?

Sonos has indeed stepped up their game when they released their Move speaker. Not only is it capable of linking with their multiroom network, but also to other techs including your phone.

Thanks to its dual capabilities of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, Sonos Move can connect to a variety of mobile phones. This is not limited to a select few phones with the same operating system. Be it Android or Apple mobile devices, the Move is perfectly capable of linking with them. You have three options when it comes to Move–Phone pairing.

Connect the Move to Phone Using the Sonos Program

  • Download the Sonos controller app from the App Store or Google Play Store. You can choose either the S1 or S2 version, depending on your planned usage with the Move.
  • Ensure that your mobile device is linked to the same Wi-Fi network as the Sonos Move. Also, turn on the speaker by pressing the Power button on the back panel.
  • Launch the Sonos controller app and follow the instructions to set up the program on the device. Then go to the Rooms list.
  • On this page, add the phone to the collection of linked devices.

Once you’ve done so, you’re able to use your phone to access the controller program. With it, you can control the Sonos Move even when you’re far away from the device.

Connect the Move to Phone Using Bluetooth

  • Press the Power button on the Sonos Move to turn on the device. Once it is on, look for the Bluetooth button on the back panel. Hold this key until you hear a chime and the LED indicator is blinking blue.
  • On your mobile device, go to Settings and toggle the Bluetooth on. Wait for a few seconds for the Sonos Move to be registered in the list of available devices.
  • Once it is, tap on the speaker once. After a few moments, Bluetooth pairing will occur. When the LED indicator displays a solid blue light, the connection is successful.

When in Bluetooth pairing mode, the Sonos Move is a general Bluetooth device. This means you can’t access Sonos-exclusive features such as the multiroom network and stereo pairing.

The third option is only viable to iPhone users through AirPlay. With the help of Apple’s proprietary system, you can stream media on iPhone and extend it to the Move.

Is Sonos Move Compatible With Android?

You’re not obligated to use only one particular brand when it comes to the Move. It can cater to a variety of operating systems, including those from Android technology. Sonos is not joking when they added the wireless speaker to their list of exceptional devices.

As long as the Android gadget you plan to use is Bluetooth-capable, then there will be no issues. Alternatively, if you’re not a fan of Bluetooth connections, then you can also opt to use the controller program. This Sonos application is available in the Google Play Store, so you can download it on your Android device.

To pair the Move with Android via Bluetooth, do it like you would any other general Bluetooth speaker. All you need to do is activate the feature on both your devices and pair them like you’re used to. Once the connection is established, any media playing from your Android will resonate with the wireless device.

On the other hand, if you’re using the controller app then make sure the Android tech is linked to the same network as the Move. This route will require the help of your Wi-Fi network and will give you access to different Sonos-exclusive features.

How to Connect Sonos Move to Samsung Phone

You can connect the Move to your Samsung phone like any other Android device. This means you can choose between Bluetooth pairing or opt to use the speaker via Wi-Fi.

When pairing the Move to your Samsung phone via Bluetooth, you’ll need to remember a few pointers. First of all, you’ll have to set up the speaker to the Sonos controller app for this to work. Skipping this step means you can’t use the wireless device at all.

Second, when the Sonos Move is in Bluetooth pairing, it’s not recorded on the controller program. As such, all controls will depend on your Samsung phone, including Playback and volume controls.

Lastly, the Move in Bluetooth mode is restricted to only playing the media from the source device. You can’t access speaker grouping and voice assistants when linked to your Samsung phone.

If you’re planning to use the Sonos controller app, then you should download it in the Play Store first. You’ll need the home network if you want this option to work, so it’s another thing to consider. Once you’ve successfully set up the Samsung phone to the app and registered the Move, then things will go smoothly.

You’ll get access to a variety of unique features and even have access to third-party programs. These include streaming services partnered with Sonos, such as Amazon Music and Spotify.

Can Sonos Move Connect to iPhone?

Connecting the Move to your iPhone is possible, and you won’t need to question where your loyalties lie. There was indeed a time when Apple devices can only connect with one another. However, this was long thrown out the window since the company is slowly opening its tech to other brands.

In fact, there are several ways you can link the Move to your iPhone. If you’re having a hard time deciding which, try out all of them and choose which one you find the easiest. First off is Apple’s very own AirPlay feature, which is exclusive only to the brand’s devices.

Here’s how you connect the Move to iPhone using AirPlay 2:

  • Navigate to the Control Center of your iPhone. You can access this by either swiping up or down, depending on your device’s model.
  • Check out the audio card in the top right corner and then tap the AirPlay icon. This icon is symbolized by a triangle and three circles.
  • A list of devices will appear, in which you’ll need to locate the Sonos Move. If you see it, click on the speaker and wait for the connection to finish. You can also select other products in the list stream the same audio across all of them.
  • Alternatively, you can use AirPlay within select iOS programs. For example, if you’re streaming with Apple Music, all you need to do is tap the AirPlay icon. After doing so, click on the Sonos Move.

If the AirPlay feature does not appeal to you, then you can use the Sonos controller app. The Move is compatible with either the S1 or S2 program, so it works with any version you installed on your iPhone.

On the chance that you’re away from the comforts of your own home, then the Bluetooth route is also available. All you need to do is activate this feature on both your Move and iPhone. Then pair the two of them to enjoy streaming media without the help of your Wi-Fi network.

Is Sonos One Compatible With Sonos Move?

Sonos is an expert when it comes to creating devices well-suited for each other. As such, expect the One to be compatible with the Move speaker. The two may not be meant for stereo pairing, but you can still link them via the controller app.

As long as both speakers are on the same Sonos system then you can connect them together. This is made possible by Sonos’ signature multiroom feature, which links the brand’s devices under one group. All the devices registered on the same Wi-Fi network get to merge and play mutual audio if you want them to.

Can Sonos Move Be Paired With Sonos One?

Stereo pairing is only possible if the devices are both of the same models. Although both One and the Move are wireless speakers, they still aren’t made to pair with each other. If you’re dead set on connecting the two, then your best bet is by putting their Rooms together.

By using the Group feature, this is possible. All you need to do is go to the System tab of your controller app. Select the Group icon on the Rooms you put the Move and One in, then click on Done.

After doing so, whatever is playing on the One will stream on the Sonos Move. You can use the controller app as the source device in this connection and play from any affiliated streaming service in the program.

Can You Pair Sonos Move With Sonos Play 5?

Rather than pairing the Play:5 and the Move together, you can connect them using Sonos’ multiroom feature. This is actually a good combination, especially as they are two speakers of different capabilities.

To be specific, the Play:5 is advertised as the brand’s most powerful wireless speaker. It is capable of filling the place it is positioned in with rich, dominant sounds. However, it must be plugged-in to work, so it cannot be carried from one place to another.

Another thing of note is that Play:5 is capable of streaming high-fi music. It can be linked to your turntable, projector, CD player using a 3.5 mm line-in.

On the other hand, the Move is battery-powered and the first device to venture out of the home ground. It also has impressive sound, but not as powerful as the Play:5.

Grouping the two can allow you to listen to whatever the Play:5 is streaming at the moment. Using the Move, you can enjoy the sound from anywhere in the house, including the backyard.

Can You Pair Sonos Move With Sonos Roam?

Since the Move and the Roam are quite similar, you may think of pairing them together. However, stereo pairing the two is impossible because they’re not of the same model. What you can do though is to group their Rooms together to connect the two.

If you’re new to the Sonos ecosystem, then the terms may seem similar to you. However, pairing and grouping are quite different from each other.

Pairing occurs when you combine two speakers and they function as one Room. Commonly known as stereo pair, one device plays the left channel of the track, and the other streams the right one. Only Sonos devices of the same model are capable of this, so it’s impossible to pair the Move and the Roam.

On the other hand, grouping is temporarily combining the speakers to stream similar audio. This occurs while the devices are stationed in different areas and far away from each other. If you station the Move and the Roam in different Rooms, then you can group them together.

Can Sonos Move Connect to Sonos Beam?

All Sonos speakers are capable of connecting with each other through the Group feature. The Move and the Beam are no exception as long as you put them under the same Sonos system. This is what makes Sonos products stand out from the rest – they’re able to form a mesh network to give you a superb sound experience.

Here’s how to group the Beam soundbar and the Move speaker in simple steps:

  • If you’re using iOS or Android, go to the System tab of your controller app. Click on the Group icon next to the Room you put the Move in. Afterward, click the Room you stationed the Beam in and select Done.
  • On your macOS or Windows device, go to the Rooms section on the left side of the Sonos app. Select the Group icon next to the Room you put the Move in. Then click on the Room the Beam is positioned and tap Done.

Alternatively, you can also use the physical buttons on one of your Sonos devices to group them. If the soundbar is currently streaming audio, then press and hold the Play/Pause button on the Move. This will group the wireless speaker with the Room the soundbar is stationed in.

Can Sonos Move Pair With Arc?

If you have an Arc and a Move stashed at home, then you can definitely connect them. This is not done through the stereo pairing though, but using Sonos’ signature multiroom feature. Using this connection, anything you play from the Arc resonates with the portable speaker.

For reference, the Arc is Sonos’ streamlined soundbar meant to connect to the TV. It does not need additional speakers for surround sound and can stand on its own.

Similarly, the Move is also an independent speaker made by Sonos. It is meant to function away from the power source and is portable enough to bring anywhere.

When you combine the two, any media streaming on the Arc gets to play on the Move. This means that if you’re watching television via the soundbar, you can use the wireless speaker to listen throughout. It’s quite useful if you’re in the kitchen but don’t want to miss anything being played on TV.

The Arc and Move pairing makes so much sense that Sonos even sells them as a bundle. For a price of $1,298, you can get the Move and the Arc as a set.

Can Sonos Move Connect to Any Soundbar?

The Sonos Move can connect to any soundbar you have, as long as it is made by the multiroom powerhouse. This means you get to connect it with the Beam or Arc using the Group feature.

However, if you’re thinking of attaching it to a Sonos soundbar as surrounds, then you’re out of luck. You can only connect the Move to its sister soundbar via the controller app, but not directly. Anything streaming from the soundbar can play with the Move, but only as part of the mesh network of speakers.

On the other hand, some soundbars from competitor markets have Bluetooth capabilities. As such, you may be thinking it’s possible for the Move to connect using its built-in Bluetooth feature. This is not the case, though.

The portable device is only made to connect with one source device, so it has limited Bluetooth capabilities. Linking with just any soundbar through Bluetooth without the help of the controller app is not possible.

Does Sonos Move Connect to Other Sonos Speakers?

As part of the multiroom family, the Move will have no trouble linking with other Sonos speakers. Although it is made as a standalone device capable of working via Bluetooth, it still functions deep within the brand’s web.

Sonos is a behemoth in the home sound system industry, especially known for its mesh network of speakers. Through their multiroom feature, you get to connect multiple Sonos speakers with the Move. You can access this within the Sonos app, which serves as a controller that connects all of the brand’s technology.

To do that, just combine the Room in which you put the Move in with other existing Rooms. Go to the System tab to do this, and just click on the icon next to the Rooms. You can select several Rooms for merging or opt to put them together under one group.

If you’re using the S2 controller app, you can even save the Group you’ve made for later use. To do this, follow the steps below:

  • Launch the Sonos S2 controller application then go to the Settings tab.
  • Select System then click on Groups. You’ll see the Create Group option, which you should click. Then choose the Rooms you want to merge together.
  • Name the Group you want to save. Double-check the list to see if you missed any Rooms and their respective speakers. Select Save once you’re sure with the inclusions.

If you want to make things even easier, there is an available shortcut for the saved Group. Just select the Group button on any of the Rooms included. Navigate to the System page and then click on the plus symbol.

To use the saved Group, you can go to the System tab. Tap on the Group icon on any of the involved Rooms. Click on the Group name and then select Done. After doing so, you’re able to stream the same media across all the speakers included in the Group.

Can You Pair Sonos Move With Sub?

It is indeed amazing if you can pair a Sub with the Move, but it’s just not possible. Sonos’ very own battery-powered speaker is not capable of being paired with a subwoofer alone, so you’re out of luck.

The Move is designed to be a portable speaker you can bring on the go, so it’s incompatible with the Sub. Sonos Sub requires to always be near another fellow product to function. In this regard, the Move is not meant to stay in one place so your best bet is to use another device.

If you’re badly invested in pairing the Move with the Sub, then you can use the multiroom feature. You can first link the Sub with any compatible Sonos device, then merge the Rooms they are in.

For reference, some of the Sonos tech compatible with the Sub are the Playbar, Play:1, and the Play:3. If you have any of these, then you can use the controller app to link the Move through the Group option.

Can Sonos Move Connect to TV?

You can think of the Move as an all-around speaker capable of connecting to most modern techs, including your television. Since the device is wireless right down to its last gear, expect it to link to your TV without using any line. There are several cable-free options available for you, so just choose which one’s the most convenient.

Pairing the Move to TV Using Bluetooth

One of the most obvious ways to connect the wireless speaker to the TV is through Bluetooth. As long as the television you intend to link is on the same profile as the Move, then it’s possible. Here’s how you can do it:

  • Turn on Bluetooth on both your devices. To activate it on the Move, press the Mode button located on the back of the speaker. Hold it until there’s a chime and the LED indicator flashes blue.
  • On your smart TV, navigate to Settings. Scroll down until you find the Bluetooth option, then toggle it on. There will be a list showing available devices, so click on Sonos Move.
  • Wait for a few seconds for the connection to finish. If you see the LED indicator on the speaker turn solid blue, then pairing is successful. Whatever you stream on your TV will play on the speaker.

Pairing the Move to TV Using Sonos Soundbar and App Sonos

If you’re not into Bluetooth and would like to maximize your Sonos sound system, then nothing’s stopping you. This way is the most efficient if you’re a true Sonos fan and owns several speakers of the brand.

For this to work, you’ll need another type of speaker aside from the Sonos Move. It can be the Playbar or one of the company’s soundbars, like the Beam or Arc. If you have any of these, then you can utilize Sonos’ multiroom feature.

All you need to do is link the soundbar of choice to the Sonos controller app. Note that the Move should also be on the same system as the device you’re using. Then, you can hardwire the soundbar to the smart TV via an optical audio cable.

On the Sonos app, merge the Move and the soundbar linked to the TV on the same Group. You can also opt to include other speakers in the list of available devices. Through this, you’re able to stream the media playing on your TV on the Move and other linked devices around the house.

Can I Connect Apple TV to Sonos Move?

If you thought the Move has revealed all its capabilities, then you’ll need to think twice. It may surprise you, but the wireless speaker even has what it takes to link to Apple TV.

In fact, you have two options when you want to have the Apple TV to Move experience. You can either use the Apple-exclusive AirPlay or simply use the speaker’s Bluetooth feature.

Here’s how you can use Apple AirPlay 2 to connect the TV to the Move:

  • Link the Apple TV box to your television using an HDMI cable. Then connect your Apple TV remote with the Apple TV.
  • Examine whether the Apple TV setup and the Sonos controller app are linked to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • On your Apple TV remote, press and hold the Play button for a few seconds. A list of speakers and headphones available for pairing will show.
  • Scroll down until you see the Sonos Move, then click on it. You can even choose to tap multiple Sonos speakers to personalize your TV experience.

As for Bluetooth pairing, you can do it the usual way. Activate Bluetooth on both the smart TV and your Sonos Move. Don’t forget to check if the Apple TV box is linked to the same television using an HDMI cable.

After checking, go to Settings then click on Audio and Video. Under this category, select Audio Output and choose Sonos Move. Wait for a few moments for the pairing to finish, and you get to enjoy TV to Move pairing using Bluetooth.

Can I Connect Sonos Move to Samsung TV?

Sonos made the Move capable of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections, so there are plenty of workarounds if you want to link it to your Samsung TV. As long as your television has the right features and hardware, then you can connect to the speaker with no hassle.

When using Bluetooth, you’ll need to use a third-party streaming service such as Netflix or Hulu. Navigate to the Settings page of the streaming platform and locate the wireless speaker. Don’t forget to set the Sonos Move on Bluetooth pairing mode before this, though. Select the Move and wait for the pairing to finish.

Once done, you’re free to stream media on your Samsung TV and play it through the portable speaker. The audio device is only one of the two Sonos products capable of Bluetooth, so this is still a rare feature.

You can also utilize the Sonos controller app and another brand speaker capable of linking directly with the Samsung TV. All you need to do is maximize the Group feature and stream the same audio from your Playbar or soundbar across the Move and other selected devices.
